6th Grade Advanced Math - Second Quarter

Students will:

  • Find quotients of problems involving multi-digit numbers
  • Estimate the quotients of decimals and judge the reasonableness of the results
  • Divide decimals by whole numbers
  • Divide decimals by decimals
  • Estimate products with fractions
  • Multiply fractions and whole numbers
  • Multiply mixed numbers
  • Change units of measure in the customary system
  • Divide whole numbers by fractions
  • Divide fractions by fractions
  • Divide mixed numbers 
  • Use integers to represent real - world situations
  • Find the absolute value of an integer
  • Compare and order integers
  • Write positive and negative fractions as decimals
  • Compare and order rational numbers
  • Graph ordered pairs on the coordinate plane

Students will be able to answer the following Essential Questions

  • How can estimating be helpful?
  • What does it mean to multiply and divide fractions?
  • How are integers and absolute value used in real - world situations?

6th Grade History-Second Quarter

During the second quarter 6th grade will be exploring Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. They will be learning about how these two civilizations were built as well as how they fell and everything in between!

6 Religion

During 2nd quarter 6th grade will continue with Unit 2 in Religion. We will look at the Eucharistic Celebration, the Commandments, our journey towards Heaven and then at how God invites us to His Kingdom.

We continue to reflect on topics from the Youth Catechism, Jesus Always, and numerous other resources to reinforce our knowledge and understanding of our faith.

For second quarter we will look at the following content:

Plate Tectonics

Earthquakes

Volcanoes

It is important to understand how they happen and what we can do to prepare ourselves to be safe.

6th September 01 2017 ELA

6th Grade ELA

Literature--During the first quarter, sixth grade will be completing a unit on poetry. We will study the elements of poetry and figurative language, and we will even be writing poems. 

Vocabulary--Units are completed independently over a 2 week span, with the last day of the second week being a test day. Parts of units are assigned in chunks, and students should be writing due dates for each section in their planners.

English--We will be focusing on capitalization and punctuation rules. We will be reviewing the Step-Up to Writing process while completing assignments and using what we have learned about punctuation and capitalization.

During the 1st quarter Earth Science will consist of the following topics:

Earth and its systems, interior, surface

Minerals and rocks, properties and classifying them, the rock cycle

Plate Tectonics, drifting continents, sea-floor spreading, theory of why the plates moved

Welcome to a new year! I am so excited to start this journey with you-middle school! It is a time of change, new challenges, and sometimes a little stress. We are here to help you find success and do the best that you can. Enjoy the ride and let's take it day-by-day!

Reminders:

students will be responsible for a morning routine-turn in anything for me or the  office, make their lunch choice, take down chairs, prepare for their morning
